This is a short stainless steel fillister head 4-40 screw,
only 1/8 inch (0.125) long. It is used as an alignment pin
by tapping the back of the grip, screwing it into the hole so
only the head remains above the surface, and using the side
of the screw head to bear against the frame so the grip
cannot rotate about its mounting screw.
The screw can also be used on guns like the Colt Junior which
requires a projection in the lower part of each grip to
fit into a hole in the frame. Rather than a fragile, plastic
molded projection, the stainless steel screw provides greater
strength and recoil resistance (even the .25 ACP jerks the
gun frame as you hold the grips, putting torque on them).
