Savage made one basic design of autoloading pistol that evolved over time into two models, the 1907 and the 1917. There were minor variations of each kind, with or without the exposed cocking lever (which looks like a hammer, but isn't) and with other minor changes, but the basic, solid design remained the same. The 1917 grips taper toward the top, and are held by either two separate screws (factory) or one No.2 screw through the frame. The 1907 grips are the same width top and bottom, approximately, and slide into an undercut or dovetail slot at top and bottom. They are held in place by friction and by a little detent near the rear edge. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
