Remington Revolvers and Grip Caps

Remington 1858 New Army revolvers come with a bewiltering variety of different grip frame shapes and sizes. The only good way to make sure the shape and size actually fit your gun is to send a pencil tracing or a cut-out stiff paper template that fits your gun, so that I can match it to the nearest larger grip. You can compare measurements, of course, to get the best match "by the numbers". Do not simply assume that the same brand and model name will fit your gun: Uberti grips sometimes fit better on certain Armi San Paolo replicas, and some Pietta grips actually fit certain Uberti guns.

One way to select the grips for your 1858 or 1875 model quickly is to measure the base of your existing grip or gun frame, then measure the height from that base to the rear corner (90 degrees to the base) and also to the front corner. With these three numbers, you can look at each listing and quickly check the specifications given. If any of the three dimensions listed is shorter than those for your gun, skip that listing and look at another. When you find a grip with the same or larger dimensions, write down the catalog number, and look for another that is even closer to the size of your gun.

When you find the one which is closest to your gun, and has the pattern or design you like (smooth, stag, etc.), you've found the best grip to order! Still, it is wise to send a tracing just to make sure that the grip is large enough to allow for fitting.
