Spacers are used on the back of grips, attached with 5-minute epoxy glue, to make 1-piece assemblies for single actions, or to stabilize other grips which are attached by a single mounting screw and do not have a post or pin to mate with a hole in the grip back. Spacers are usually meant to be sanded to fit the opening in your particular gun's frame, and as such may not fit as received. A little extra material is usually provided so you can adapt the spacer to exact fit on your example of the model of gun.
