This grip has been used on both the M83, for which it
was designed, and the M97 (with a more sanding to
fit). It is sent as a kit with flat back, and will require
relief at the top, backside, to clear the frame. This is
most easily done with a flat end rotary bit and a Dremel
type hand tool, with the gun in hand to test every few
cuts when you get close.
Note: This model
of grip is made for right-handed shooters! It has a
flatter left panel, and a more full and rounded right panel,
to provide a palm-filling hold and help keep the gun from
being pulled sideways by positioning the trigger finger to
pull straight back. The somewhat thinner, more flattened
curve on the left panel gives your finger tips a little
more purchase as they wrap around the frame, and also lets
the gun ride a little closer to the body side of the holster.
If you shoot left handed, the grips still work OK but right-
handed shooters get the full advantage of the difference
in grip curvature and fullness. Left handers won't notice
much difference since the thumb area at the top is about
the same thickness on both sides, but they will tend to
get their fingers a little further around on the frame.
This is good for smaller handed folks who are also left
handed, but not so good if you have large hands and shoot left
handed. In that case, you might select a different set
of grips!
Since Freedom Arms grip frames vary so much even in the
same model, it is best if you send a good tracing and
indicate the screw hole location. This will help me
make sure that I send a large enough grip so you can do
the proper fitting, but close enough to minimize the
amount you need to sand for a good fit.
Here are the dimensions:
- Front edge length (A) = 1.145 inch
- Over all height (B) = 3.58 inch
- Length of the base (C) = 2.3 inch
- Midpoint of front to rear edge (D) = 1.84 inch
- Length of top flat (E) = 1.2 inch
- Height of screw hole center from base = 1.75 inch
- Screw hole center to front edge = 0.7 inch
- Width across grip at screw hole center = 1.34 inch
As always, compare dimensions and make sure this is big
enough compared to your gun frame. Send a pencil tracing
or index-card cut-out template to make sure the grip is
large enough to allow for fitting.
