This is a 2-56 x 1 inch stainless steel, fillister head
grip mounting screw, a brass press-fit 2-56 nut, and a
brass press-fit ferrule for the screw head.
The brass mounting hardware fits into a 1/4-in diameter
hole and provides ample support for the screw in a thin grip. A .092
hole through the counter bore allows the No.2
screw to pass through the grips, and a counterbore of .150 diameter
allows room for alignment with the grip holes and frame
hole in certain guns.
These kits are best suited to the 1910 Browning, 25 ACP Colt
and Browning pocket pistols, and similar guns where the
screw passes through a hole in the handgun's frame. They are
also useful for thin grips such as those on modern pocket
autoloading pistols.
You
may need to cut the screw length to fit your particular
combination of gun and grips. Instructions on proper
cutting technique are sent with the screw kits.
Please note that the grips offered on this website come
with mounting screws installed unless otherwise requested
by you, or unless they are designed to be used with the
screws which come with the gun (as in the 1911 Colts and
some of the Derringers), or unless they are 3-piece kits
such as the early Blackpowder Colt revolvers used. You
do not have to buy a screw kit separately unless you want
one for some other reason. Screw kits are made available
for other gripmakers and hobbyists to make their own
grips more easily. (The press-in brass fittings are almost
impossible to find except for the larger 5-40 size.)
Always allow
a minimum of 0.020 inches of grip material below the
counterbored hole (that is, under the nut or ferrule). Otherwise
it may be possible to pull the ferrule or nut through the
grip when you tighten the screw.
If you need this screw kit to make grip panels for some
of the newer, thick-handled Ruger SP101 or GP100 styles
of revolvers, ask for the 1.25 inch long screw instead
of the 1.0 inch long standard size. The majority of
guns using small diameter screws also use 1-inch or less
length. But a few exceptions with extra-wide or thick
grips need a longer screw. Also if you know you need a
7/8-inch or some other special length, let me know. I might
not have the odd size in stock, but if I do I'd be
glad to send it instead of the standard 1-inch length.
