This generic derringer grip blank set consists of smooth left and right panels with no screw holes. It is offered for folks whowish to make their own grip, starting with a close set ofblanks.
This grip set might be used on a Bond, Cobra, Davis, or any of dozens of other brands and foreign makes, provided the gun is about the right shape and is smaller than the grip blank. This is a kind of "if all else fails" package. I use it when someone sends a tracing that is just a little larger than my closest "finished" grip mold, andjust sand the shape and size (and thickness) to suit.
Here are the dimensions:- (A) width across top = 1.05 inch
- (B) width across center = 1.05 inch
- (C) Height = 2.0 inch
- Distance from point (a) to point (b) = greatest span, 2.15 inch
- Thickness at center = 0.40 inch
Please note that you can make these as thin as you wish, by sanding from the back (which reduces side-to-side sizealso) or from the rounded front (which leave the side-to-sidesize the same).
Some guns use grips with a raised center on the back, to drop into a cut-out in the frame. You can simulate thisvery easily by marking on the back of the grip, throughthe frame, to determine the position and size relative tothe grip. Then simply epoxy glue three small, thin blocksto the back so they form three snug points of contact withthe inside of the grip frame cut-out. It is not necessaryto route the entire frame, all around. Any three points willkeep it from turning, if they are about equally distant.Or, you can mark three points and drill small holes partway into the back, and then press-fit three short brads orsmooth finish nails into the holes. Cut them off so onlyan amount the thickness of the frame projects. The famousFitz grip company used this technique for a variety ofguns.
This is a generic blank, which you can order for fittingand finishing, yourself. I cannot put the screw holesin it because I don't know where you want them. Somederringers use two separate screws threaded into theframe. Some use a single screw through the frame. You can order a separate screw of your choice in the"hardware" section if you need one.
