This is a 1.6 inch by 2 inch 4-cove oval grip cap,
a little larger and taller than most. It has an interesting
profile, and is made so you can sand it down to make it
smaller without damaging the pattern.
The grip cap can be attached with epoxy glue so it does
not require a screw hole, or you can have it made with
a central screw hole.
Hint: put a little pin or dowel
in the flat surface of the stock so it projects above
the surface slightly, and make a matching shallow hole in
the back of the grip cap. This will align the cap and
keep it from ever turning around the screw. Even a brad
with the head cut off works fine as an alignment pin.
The oval shape is 1.60 inches in the smaller axis and
2.0 inches across the longer axis. If you measure a line
1.4 inches long edge to edge parallel to the short axis,
the middle of that line will be 1/2 inch from the end of the long
axis nearest the line, and 1.5 inches from the other end
of the long axis. That lets you see the way the oval
curves if you draw it on paper.
Here's another way to say that: measure along the long
axis 1/2 inch from either end. At that point, the width
across the grip cap will be 1.4 inches. (Since the grip
cap is 2 inches long, the line will be 1-1/2 inches from
the opposite end of the long axis.)
