This set of bird's head shape grips can be sawed, filed, and
sanded (not necessarily all three!) to fit a wide range of
small pocket pistols. The location of a grip screw would
depend on your gun's frame and hammer spring position, so
it comes without the screw holes. You can order the desired
screw mount kit separately, if you so desire.
- Distance from A to B = 1.45 inches
- Maximum height, top to bottom = 1.92 inches
- Minimum width across middle = 1.014 inches
- Average thickness = 0.26 inches
I like to use this grip on the various North American Arms
and Freedom Arms revolvers. It is large enough so you can
hold it up to the grip frame, and draw around the frame on
the back of the grip, then cut and sand off the surplus. I
use a little wood-cutting jig saw to slice off larger portions
of the surplus material, and then a coarse grit fingernail
sanding board to get the shape right. Finally, I use a
medium and then a fine grit (say, about 200 and then 320
grip, but exact grit isn't critical) to finish shaping.
Finally, I use a wet-dry abrasive material like you'd use
to finish auto painting jobs to finish the surface, buff
it with a muslin wheel and white rouge, and finally, wax
and buff it with regular clear auto or furniture wax.
But I've had clients say they roughed the surface with a
sand blaster once they'd carved it to shape, to get a
good slip-proof surface. Oh, well...whatever you like!
The smooth grips clean up easier and I've not really
noticed any problem with grips slipping around in my hand
(rolling upward under recoil seems normal to me, not a
problem). But most folks don't count on these guns for
combat operations, so do whatever works best in your own
situation...
However, please don't ask me to install medallions, put in
the screw kit, make it fit some particular model of gun,
etc. because this is a blank, priced so YOU can do those
things. Also, without a tracing that shows the size and
shape, and the location of the screw hole, I can't do it
anyway. It's generic, not specific to a model.
I do include material so you can make spacers for the
back, in case they are needed for your gun. These are
thin bits of material that you sand to fit the frame
opening, then epoxy cement to the back of the grip (once
the grip is shaped) so the grip can't pivot around the
mounting screw.
