Are you sending a tracing?:
YES! I want to assure proper size/shape. Tombstone is responsible for fit to tracing. Tracing will show hole pattern. **************************************
NO. I will be responsible if I choose the wrong size grip. I will measure my gun and compare to the listed specs. If I order a grip that is the wrong size or shape, I agree that it is NOT returnable. *****************************************************
I already mailed a tracing BEFORE I placed this order.

This grip is for the Freedom Arms large frame Model 83 revolver. The factory grips are hand fitted to each gun, and you'll need to do the same. The back of this grip is flat, and will require that you use a little flat-ended bit in your Dremel or Moto-Tool to cut away material on the back, at the top and front. This isn't difficult, just requires that you go slowly and work carefully to get a perfect fit.

Freedom Arms hand fits the grips to their guns, so there's no way I could possibly know the exact size or various curve radius any closer than you see here...unless you make an accurate pencil tracing around your grips or a stiff index-card cutout that fits your gun like a grip, indicating the screw hole location, and mail it to me. If you do that, you will have removed one of the largest problems in getting a grip that is large enough for proper fitting in all dimensions. Otherwise, I have to depend entirely on you to measure and compare specs, and order the proper grip to fit your gun. If none are large enough, check out the "generic" grip which is usually plenty large enough for all the variations.

Why would you want to put a relatively inexpensive grip on a near-perfect firearm of this class? Easy: if you want to use it much, you probably want some "working" grips that are tougher than real ivory, pearl, wood, or other natural materials. The polyurethane resin used to make these grips has a 3000 psi tensile strength and won't melt even at 450 degrees F, so you can carry it in the field, on hunting trips, and save your $350 set of ivory grips for display! Grips are the easiest thing to change on most handguns...why not have grips you can afford to beat up, that will take a lot of beating, in addition to a nice set for "show"?

These are the larger of the two sets I make for Freedom Arms revolvers. The other is the 137b, which is made for the Model 1997 (or M97 as it is often called). Be sure to order the right size for your gun!

size diagram Here is the size:
  • Front edge (A)= .947 inches
  • Overall height (B) = 3.46 inches
  • Width of base (C) = 1.90 inches
  • Midpoint of front edge to rear edge (D) = 1.62 inches
  • Flat on top (E) = 1.04 inches
  • Height of screw hole center = 1.7 inches
  • Width across grip at screw hole center = 1.225 inches
  • Screw hole center to rear edge = .75 inches
Grip back as shipped Aged Ivory
Note: This is how the grip backs look when you get them. You will need to use a Moto-Tool or similar to remove material from the back, at the top front corner. Fit the top first, and then the rest will be easy.
