These are factory-copy checkered grips made in a mold
that was produced using an original wood grip as the
master. You can order them with pearl or translucent
effects but generally a smooth grip
looks better with these special effects. That said, the
translucent effects don't look "bad" under checkering. The
figure and swirls and play of light that makes pearl
effects look unique just don't show up as clearly as on a smooth grip.
But since each grip is made in a mold (see "terms of sale"
page for details), these grips are exactly what you see
above: they are checkered. I cannot magically change the
mold so don't ask for these to be made smooth. Sorry,
can't do that.
I am told that the original weapon was made by Colt
and called The Pony. Colt decided to make theirs a
double action and sold the prototype to Iver Johnson.
Iver Johnson manufactured this weapon two times,
from 1984 to 1986 and from 1989 to 1991.
They called it the Model PO 380 Pony.
The workings were the same as the Colt 1911,
but half the size and chambered for 380 caliber.
This grip attaches using the factory original screws in
your gun, two screws per grip panel. There is a shallow
relief groove to be made on the back of one panel, which
is easy to make with a Dremel rotary tool. Relatively easy
job to fit these to the frame...the mounting holes are
pre-drilled for you.
