YES! I want to assure proper size/shape. Tombstone is responsible for fit to tracing. Tracing will show hole pattern. **************************************
NO. I will be responsible if I choose the wrong size grip. I will measure my gun and compare to the listed specs. If I order a grip that is the wrong size or shape, I agree that it is NOT returnable. *****************************************************
I already mailed a tracing BEFORE I placed this order.

This grip is for the Harrington & Richardson 22 Premier top break revolvers which were made without the stepped frame, for government issue to couriers during WWII. The frame is solid, very heavy, and is NOT milled on the sides to accept the usual H&R "target" grip with the "ears" on either side of the logo.

Ivory This grip does not fit any of the Premier models which were built in the more conventional way with a slight drop milled in the grip frame so that the grips would fit more or less flush with the raised surface at the top. It attaches with the same conventional screw, but you will need to make two small, shallow alignment pin holes top and bottom to fit pins projecting from the frame.

It is my opinion that the government contract for these break top revolvers, mostly for women employed as couriers, was likely a rush job, and that H&R saved time and a little cost by leaving the frames full width, as forged, with just a light pass with a mill cutter across the surface...or perhaps skipping that step entirely. I do not think it was a design feature, as I've read somewhere, to make the guns heavier in the butt section. They ARE in fact very sturdy, thicker and stronger than the civilian production since no additional metal is removed from the grip frame area, but I believe this was just to get the contract done quicker and meet government deadlines.

I have read or heard from other collectors the theory that women would be less inclined to shoot someone who tried to attack them and therefore the heavier gun butts were more useful as a cudgel to bonk people on the heads! Most of the women I know would be far more likely to protect their dispatch pouch by shooting the foreign agent than trying to knock him out by swinging the gun by its barrel! The 22 Long Rifle round would be easy to shoot, even with minimal training, which is of course why it was issued.

Here are the dimensions for this grip:
  • Overall height = 2.5 inches (measured 90-degrees to base)
  • Width across the logo area at top = 0.82 inches
  • Width across the screw hole = 1.06 inches
  • Height of the screw hole = 1.08 inches
  • Width (max) just above the base = 1.08 inches
  • Width of the flat area at the base = 0.93 inches

Dave Corbin Please Note: I make all the grips by hand and receive so many orders that custom made grip delivery takes an average 90 days.
Stock items (medallions, screws, specials) usually ship within 10 days.
I can't promise a specific ship date, as it will vary with circumstances.
If you can't wait, please don't order! I'm working as fast as possible.

Be SURE to read the TERMS of SALE page, so you KNOW what you are getting.
