This is a smooth version of the 28A factory grip for the
shorter barrel, short round frame versions of the Harrington
and Richardson series of solid frame revolvers built like
the models 922, 732, and several other models with slight
variations in sights, colors, barrel lengths, etc.
Please bear in mind that the longer barrel versions have
longer grip frames in a more or less "Coke-bottle" shape
with a square base. The model number is usually the same.
You have to look at the picture and dimensions, not just
the model number. Compare to your gun. If this grip is
smaller than your grip frame, it won't work.
Here are the dimensions of this grip:
- Width across the flat base = 1.1 inches
- Height to the screw hole = 1.1 inches
- Width across grip at the screw hole center = 1.1 inches
- Front edge to center of screw hole = 0.5 inches
- Width across the top "ears" = 0.9 inches
- Height of the round top above line connecting the "ears" = 0.3 inches
- Overall height of grip = 2.3 inches
- Front ear height 90-degrees to base = 1.7 inches
- Rear ear height 90-degrees to base = 2.2 inches
Please note that there are three ways to connect this grip
to the gun, and your gun might only work with one of them.
They are...
- Two separate 6-32 oval head screws into a U-shape bracket
- One single No.4 screw with ferrule and nut pressed into the grips.
- Two separate 3-48 screws into a U-shape bracket
IF your gun has the hammer spring located so that a screw
can pass all the way through one side and out the other,
you can use the second method (single screw mount). BUT if
your gun has the hammer spring located so it is right in
the way, and a single screw can't get past it easily in
all positions of the hammer (cocked or not), then you
probably have a U-shaped bracket surrounding the hammer
spring, with two 6-32 holes in it. Select the right kind
of mounting for your gun. H&R was rather casual about
indicating these things in model numbers -- actually, they
usually did not. The same model number of gun might have
various kinds of grip frames, various sorts of mounting
methods, different lengths or shapes of grips, and woe to
the person who thinks his Model 732 or Model 922 is the
same as all the others!
