This Pietta model is yet another Colt Peacemaker Single Action Army clone
with still another slight change in size and shape from
the "original" 1873 model P.
It also happens to be about the right size for SOME versions
of the Ruger Blackhawk 44 Magnum revolver frames! Some trimming
is needed, but if you send a tracing, I can do that before
sending it. Without a tracing, you have to do it since
each Ruger can have a slightly different grip frame shape/size
and I have no clue what you might be holding in your hands without a tracing.
I've also noticed that this grip fits some of the early
Ruger Single Six frames with a little trimming.
It is SO important that you
send a pencil tracing around your existing grips or a template
made by pushing the corner of a 3 x 5 index card into the
front top corner of the frame, and then tracing with a
pencil around the rest of the frame, cutting this out and
making sure it fits the gun just like you want the backside
of the grip to fit. Then mail it to me, so I can see
what shape and size your particular revolver frame may be.
Or, if you don't mind taking the risk of having to send
it back and getting a replacement subject to the costs of
shipping again, just compare dimensions and check the
box saying you'll be responsible if it doesn't fit your
particular gun. Either way, you will eventually wind up
with the right grip, but could be cheaper for you if you send
the tracing with the order, so I can check the size and
shape against the grip you ordered and make sure it will
work -- or let you know if it won't.
- Front edge height (A) = 1.05-in
- Overall height at front edge (B) = 3.14-inch
- Overall height at start of rear curve = 3.04-inch
- Width across the base (C) = 2.125-inch
- Width at G when F is 1.5-inch = 1.5-inch
- Flat area at top (E) = 1.25-inch
- Center of front edge to rear edge (D) = 1.90-inch
This is a 1-piece kit, meaning you get two grip panels and
a spacer, as shown, as the default configuration. You then
sand the grip panels to fit your frame, and epoxy glue the
spacer to one of them so it bears securely against the inside
of the backstrap while the grip top is firmly against the
frame at the top corner. After the epoxy cures, you sand
the spacer by moving it in a circular motion on a flat
piece of sandpaper so that the spacer is exactly the
thickness of your gun frame. Then cement the other
grip panel to the spacer, and you have a one-piece grip.
Of course, your gun must have a removable back strap for
this to work. Otherwise, if your gun has a solid grip
frame, you'll need to select the two-piece screw mounted
option, and send me a tracing or template that shows the
area where the screw could be mounted and not hit the
hammer spring with the hammer cocked or with it down. I
can usually guess fairly well using an original Colt
grip as a guide, but why take the chance of another
delay while you ship it back and get it done again, with
the template or tracing required, when it could be sent
the first time? It's cheaper to mail in the tracing by
itself than to send it with a returned grip and check for
re-shipping a new one!
There are so many different variations of Colt SAA grips
listed for one simple reason: hardly any two clones use
the same shape and size! Even the same brand and model
will have variations from one production date to the next.
