Are you sending a tracing?:
YES! I want to assure proper size/shape. Tombstone is responsible for fit to tracing. Tracing will show hole pattern. **************************************
NO. I will be responsible if I choose the wrong size grip. I will measure my gun and compare to the listed specs. If I order a grip that is the wrong size or shape, I agree that it is NOT returnable. *****************************************************
I already mailed a tracing BEFORE I placed this order.

The Colt Pony is a double action only .380 Auto, which followed the Colt Mustang (a shortened and scaled down 1911 design for the .380), which in turn followed the .380 Government (a scaled down 1911 for .380 but not as modernized as the Mustang).

These grips are checkered. They don't show the swirls and figure in a translucent pearl material. I can't "make them smooth" as they come out of a mold and are just what you see here. Some people buy pearl options and are disappointed because the grips don't turn smooth when made out of a different material. The only way to get a smooth grip is to order a smooth grip from a listing that shows one. At this time, I don't have a smooth version of the Colt Pony. But if enough people request it I will eventually make the model grip and create a new mold and then list the smooth grip.

Pearl and metallic effects don't look "bad" in checkered pattern grips. They simply don't look the same as they would on a smooth grip, where you can see the patterns formed in the translucent material. Personally, I rather like a gold pearl checkered grip. It has a glow and sheen that stands out from other opaque colors (even though the checkering tends to make it look opaque). Suit yourself but don't be shocked when a checkered grip actually comes checkered, just as you see it here!

These grips attach in an odd way. The factory grips have a single screw, per panel, near the bottom, and a rather fragile little angled projection on the back, near the top, which slides into a hole in the frame. To remove the grips, you remove the single screw in each grip, and slide the grip down to disengage this tab.

This replacement grip is flat-backed, like all the cast polymer resin grips offered here. There are a number of ways to replace that thin, built-in tab with something stronger. One way is to use a small strip of brass, cut to slip into the same frame cutout, and epoxy glued to the back of the strip. If it should ever become bent or broken, just dissolve the epoxy with acetone (the grip material is not harmed by it) and make a new one.

Another way is to use a flat headed steel or brass tack, make a small hole in the back of the grip, press fit the tack into the hole with a film of epoxy glue applied, and leave just enough gap under the head to slip into the frame.

A third way is to use a small piece of the same grip material, sanded to a wedge shape, and epoxy glued to the back of the grip in the right spot so the wedge slips into the frame. This method is stronger than the factory retainer tab, and easy to do. A pre-formed set of two small wedges is sent along with the grips. You use the screws that come with the gun.

Here are the dimensions:
  • Front edge length = 2.9 inches (right), 2.5 inches left)
  • Bottom of rear edge to top rear corner = 2.7 inches
  • Top width = 1.4 inches (right), 1.3 inches (left)
  • Base width = 1.3 inches (both)
  • Mounting hole center from base = 0.35 inches (both)
  • Width of right grip at center of mag.release notch = 1.1 inches
  • Width of left grip below top swell = 1.2 inches
