This is a smooth single action grip made for Colt 1872
open top Navy model revolvers, but may fit many other
clones and copies of various Colt single action army
revolvers also. Only way to know is to measure your gun
frame and compare to the listing given below, or make a
pencil tracing of your gun frame and mail it to me so I can
use it as a pattern, hold it up to the back of the grip and
see if the grip is at least as large all the way around.
- Front edge length (A) = 1.0 inch
- Overall height (B) = 3.20 inch
- Base width (C) = 2.05 inch
- Center of front edge to rear edge (parallel to base)(D) = 1.6 inch
- Flat area at the top (E) = 0.85 inch
- Width of neck at narrowest part (angled across) = 1.2 inch
- Width of grip at 1.5 inches from base = 1.45 inch
- Thickness at the top = 0.31 inch
- Thickness at the bottom = 0.55 inch
Please note:
This grip can be ordered either as a 1-piece kit consisting
of a spacer and two panels, which you first fit to the gun
and then epoxy glue to the spacer...
...or...
...a 2-piece kit with two panels and a screw mount. The
1-piece grip (consisting of two grip panels and one spacer,
so that makes it a 3-piece kit before you assemble it) is
the authentic 1872 style, and also the way the first
generation or earliest 1873 "Peacemaker" Model P Single
Action Army revolvers had the grips secured.
You can select either option. If you select the screw-mount
kit, be sure to send a tracing that shows exactly where
you want the screw hole to be located.
If you don't send
a tracing, the only thing I can do is put the screw where
it has cleared the main or hammer spring on other models
in the past, with no guarantee that it will clear on your
particular gun. Since you have the gun that you want to
fit with these grips, and I don't, only YOU can measure
and determine where to put the screw hole so it will work
on that example of the model and make. Odds are that the
typical single action location may work. But there is no
guarantee that the gun used to establish the hole location
that I used will be exactly like yours, even if it has the
same make and model. Production changes and tolerances
are some of the things that make this impossible to know.
A tracing that you make and mail to me (not fax or email)
will, on the other hand, show me both the size and shape,
and where to put the screw, so long as you make
it properly. A modestly co-ordinated six
year old could do that, so it should not prove much of a
challenge! I don't need your grips. A template or tracing
made by holding a 3 x 5 index card against the upper corner
of the frame, with the back strap replaced less the grip,
and tracing around the outline of the frame with a pencil
will do it for the 1 piece style. Holding the grip panel
flat on the 3 x 5 card and tracing around it, then marking
the hole location for the screw, will do the job for the
two-piece style.
Funny thing: most people send tracings, but a few folks
seem to think this is worse than a root canal and try
everything they
can think of to avoid it. Making a tracing or a cut-out
template is next to nothing in time or trouble! You can do it in
less than five minutes, and it prevents getting the wrong
grip, or one too small to be fitted to your gun, or getting
a grip that has the screw location right over the hammer
spring or some part of the frame that isn't there in other
makes or models. It is far cheaper to do that than to buy
another grip made with a good tracing.
Aged Pearl = a slightly yellow/gold glow of aged white pearl.
This is a more subtle, much lighter appearance than golden
pearl, not nearly as dark and figured as aztec gold, and
much more white or lightly shaded than yellow pearl. Yes,
it features yellow and gold shading, but it is more of a
tint or patina than a pronounced color. The basic white
pearl has 24k gold dust, finely atomized gold particles,
mixed into the liquid before it is poured and cured, to
create this effect.
