Are you sending a tracing?:
YES! I want to assure proper size/shape. Tombstone is responsible for fit to tracing. Tracing will show hole pattern. **************************************
NO. I will be responsible if I choose the wrong size grip. I will measure my gun and compare to the listed specs. If I order a grip that is the wrong size or shape, I agree that it is NOT returnable. *****************************************************
I already mailed a tracing BEFORE I placed this order.

This is another version of the Uberti Cattleman clone of the Colt 1873 Model P "PeaceMaker" Single Action Army. It can be ordered as a one piece grip with two panels and a spacer (3- piece kit), or as a screw-mounted 2-panel kit. The 1-piece grip is made by fitting the two panels and epoxy glueing them to the spacer (instructions are provided). This makes a single unit, or one piece grip. It only works with guns having a removable back strap, since that is how the grip is held to the gun. The screw mount version works with any single action frame style.

Be sure to send a pencil tracing or a pattern cut out of 3 x 5 index card or similar thick paper stock as a template. If you do this I can hold it up to the various incarnations of the Cattleman and see which size fits your gun best. Otherwise, you will need to check the measurements yourself and compare to the listing below, since I can't tell what size or shape your gun grip frame may be from my grip shop! The Cattleman and many similar models were made with various curves and sizes of frame, and there is no way to determine by serial number or any other marking exactly what tolerances or production changes might be applied to any specific gun. Therefore, the tracing is the answer to getting the right grip.

Making a tracing of a grip frame is a little bit tricky, since you have to remove the grip, and put the back strap back on the gun, then check to see if the corner behind the trigger guard and under the hammer area is a 90-degree angle or some slightly different angle. If it is 90-degrees, the corner of your index card will fit squarely, so you can place the card near the edge of your bench, hold the gun firmly against the card and trace around it where the card sticks out past the frame. If the angle is not 90 degrees, you will see a little wedge-like gap between the card and the gun, so you need to trim the card to match, and then trace the rest of the frame.

When you finish tracing, cut out the tracing to make a pattern (or "template") that fits on your gun just like the grip would. Trim it so it fits the way you want the back of the new grips to fit. It is all I have to work with, so get it right and the grip will be right also. I try to leave a little extra material on the grip so you can sand to exact fit. That makes it unnecessary to be perfect, but try to get the pattern as close as you can so you won't have too much extra to sand down. If the new grip has 1/32 to 1/16 inch more material to sand it will not be difficult to get a perfect fit. Ideally the tracing or pattern you send will be exactly perfect but in real life there is usually a slight tolerance, which is why getting just a bit more grip than the pattern is not a bad idea, if the mold allows for it.

diagram Here are the grip dimensions:
  • Length of the front edge (A) = 0.96 inches
  • Over-all height of the grip from the front edge to base (B) = 3.2 inches
  • Width of the base (C) = 2.12 inches
  • Midpoint of front edge to rear edge (D) = 1.7 inches
  • Top edge width (E) = 1.0 inches
  • Narrow part of the neck = 1.3 inches across.
