These 1911 grips are made with the three large diamonds
checkered in the intervening spaces. The center diamond
is ideal for mounting larger service medallions.
To tell if this grip fits your gun, first check the hole spacing.
If the screws are centered at 3-1/16 inches, then the mounting
holes are in the right place. The over all height of the
grip is about 4 inches. Most compact frame .45's have shorter
grip frames and closer hole spacing.
The width of the grip is 1-3/8 at the bottom screw hole, and
1-1/8 inch at the top screw hole. The bottom screw hole is 7/16
from the base of the grip. The top screw hole is about 1/2 inch
below the top edge of the grip.
You can easily sand, file, or saw a small notch or clearance
for ambidextrous safety levers at the top on either side.
The material is not difficult to shape. Yet it is very
tough (3100 psi tensile strength) and heat resistant (350-deg
F.). Unlike most injection molded thermoplastic factory
grips, made in mass production, the individually molded
exothermic curing polymer won't warp and melt if left in
a closed car in the hot sun. You are unlikely to ever see
radial cracks from the screw holes or across stress points
due to dropping the gun or just plain age and shrinkage,
as you do on cheaper plastics. The cost savings on
Tombstone Grips comes from letting you do the final 10%
of the finish and fitting, and from the fact that these
are molded in standard shapes rather than individually
carved custom work (but they can be made with any color).
