If you've ever built your own grips and tried to find appropriate mounting hardware, especially the
brass press-in knurled nuts and ferrules, you probably discovered that universal hardware is very
difficult to find.
Guns which have threaded holes in the frame or special through-the-back or underside mountings will need to be used with their own screws. Those are specific as to thread, length, diameter, head size
and thickness. But for grips held on by a single screw going through one panel, passing through a hole in the frame, and threading into a captive nut in the opposite panel, there is no restriction except they need to be strong and long enough. You can cut the screws shorter to fit almost any gun.
I offer this kind of mounting kit in 5-40, 4-40 and 2-56 size. The brass ferrules look
nice and fit into 0.25 inch diameter holes. The No.2 and No.4 are made so they can be used in very thin grips. A set of instructions for installation comes with each shipment. The screws are slotted fillister head unless otherwise noted on the listing.
Here is a guide to choosing the right kit:
Pocket pistols, Ruger insert panels, thin autos, Colt 1903 and Browning 1906-1910, Derringer style
handguns which use a single screw, and any handgun with a through-the-frame screw hole through which a No.2 screw can pass.
This can eliminate the need to find two original thread screws for a tapped single hole, provided the hole has a clear
passage through the grip frame, as with the 1903 Colt and 1906-1910 Browning autos.
No.2 (2-56) Screw Kit
Most single actions, standard and full sized double actions, and autoloaders
which use a single mounting screw (most use their own screws matching threads in the frame)
No.4 (4-40) Screw Kit
For grips with oversized screw hole or to correct the alignment
if you happened to drill a smaller set of holes slightly off from each other
No.5 (5-40) Screw Kit
NOTE: I offer individual screws in various sizes and lengths, no minimum order amount, but the minimum shipping is
still a flat rate. If you want a part that costs less than a dollar, it makes good sense to combine this with other items
or to order a quantity. I would recommend ordering screws in quantities of 10. That way, the shipping cost is more reasonable for the value of goods ordered. But it's up to you
and I will ship a 19 cent part if that's all you want. Still have to use priority mail with delivery confirmation in order
to assure prompt, reliable delivery and accountability.
I don't offer gold plated or black oxide screws since, in most cases, you mark and cut off the end to match your gun and grip thickness. Doing that would leave a bright silver end and negate the value of having expensive black oxide on stainless. If you look at the example guns shown on this website, you will
see that the little silver dot that is the small screw head or tip hardly shows anyway, and looks
quite nice with the surrounding thin brass ferrule or nut. Demand for anything else is below the threshold
of being affordable to make and carry in stock.
If you want a special screw in enough quantity to justify making it, let me know! Minimum
volume to develop a new CNC-machined or special finish treated product is 10,000 units.
Likewise, if you have a need for 10,000 or more special finished screws, such as gold plated, black oxide
finished, or special silver or black finished brass inserts, I can quote that (less would
cost too much each to be practical). You can email me at Dave@TombstoneGrips.com.
Please Note: I make all the grips by hand and receive so many orders that custom made grip delivery takes an average 3-4 months.
Stock items (medallions, screws, specials) usually ship within 10 days.
I can't promise a specific ship date, as it will vary with circumstances. If you can't wait, please don't order! I'm working as fast as possible.
Be SURE to read the TERMS of SALE page, so you KNOW what you are getting.
Always compare listed measurements OR send a tracing of original grip or gun frame.
Do NOT order
just by description, since the same model and make can vary in actual size and shape of grip frame!
